::rainy days::

I love rainy days. Actually, I just love rain. I know some people find it dreary, but I suppose as a Californian, it doesn’t happen enough to get out of the novelty-wow-this-is-so-cool stage into the dreary. Now, it could be the Jane Austen fan in me, but every time it rains and stays overcast and cloudy, I break out the Earl Grey (decaf obviously…), find my cushiest slippers, throw on a super comfy sweatshirt (the kind that is definitely NOT a going-out-of-the-house type sweater – clearly I have argyle for that!), grab a blanket and a good book, throw on some jazz (usually my J.J.Johnson and Kai Winding album on vinyl… yum!) and settle in for however long it’ll last. If I’m feeling particularly industrious, I’ll try to bribe the cat to curl up on my feet. Because of that little California fact, it means this only happens like 3 times a year. But I love it!

All of that to say, that’s where you can find me today. Of course, at the moment I’ve substituted the book for my laptop (I’ll return to the book soon – currently “The Expectant Father” – I know, I know, but clearly I want to know what they’re telling my husband too! Don’t judge…) and instead of the cat, Kipper (my 90 lb. Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix) has been more than willing to oblige me. He’s even snoring to complete the Norman Rockwell feeling of it all. I’ll take the opportunity to complete some more business planning for 2009 (definitely some new things coming there – I’ll post soon about what to expect), but I am mostly unashamedly enjoying my rainy day tradition.

Ok, so what about you guys? Do you rain lovers out there have your own tradition? Leave your traditions in the comments below – there may even be a special prize in it for the person with the best alternate Rainy Day Tradition! Happy rainy day!

Melanie - Well, previously my favorite rainy day tradition was to take my Kipper clone, Christian and go running, puddle jumping, etc through our neighborhood until we were both soaked head to toe. After that we would go home, dry off, turn on the music, wrap up in my blanket my granny made for me, drink some tea, and read a book. So in the end it turns out like yours. Since Christian is no longer apart of my life *sniff* and I see to always be working when its raining, I don't get to enjoy it. However, on the off chance I am home when its raining I like to sit out on the front porch, wrap in a blanket, drink my earl grey, read a book and wave at the neighbors. So again, all about the same! GMTA!

Jen - I LOVE rainy days. While today I didn't get to indulge in my favorite "Rainy Day" activities due to work, I love to be out in the rain when I can. My tradition is to put on way too many articles of clothing, with at least 2 of them having hoodies, and go walking in the rain - NO umbrella. The best is when I can do this with Anthony and steal a kiss or two in the rain. Then come home and take a HOT shower and bundle up in warm PJ's, make a cup of hot cocoa, and pop in a movie. I can't wait for the next rainy Saturday. :-)

Another Brienne Michelle - So, forgive me for this quasi-stalkerish randomness, but when I found out there was someone else out there with the name "Brienne Michelle," I felt compelled to leave you a note. In conducting the embarrassingly vain endeavor of Googling myself (hey, anything is fair game when you're procrastinating from studying for law school finals!), I came upon your website. I gather that Michelle is your last name - it is actually my middle name, but I still found the coincidence amusing, since I rarely run into anyone who has my first name, let alone my first and middle names. Anyway, I enjoyed glancing through your blog - I just got married in August, so I certainly can appreciate beautiful wedding photography! Best of luck with your photography career, and with the upcoming addition to your family!
