Today is a really unique day for Jen. Today, September 18, was Abby‘s due date. At first glance, it seems like everything is fine, normal, happy, good, and dare I say it, typical (minus the amazing state of Jen’s body…). And while you’d be right about some of those things (things ARE happy and good), this journey and these images are anything but typical. Because that sweet little newborn-looking baby girl is really 3.5 months old. On her due date.
Ok moms out there, can you fathom that for a minute? Yeah. Me neither.
Jen had originally planned on doing a maternity session with me somewhere around the 30 week mark. But by “30 weeks”, Abby had been out of Jen’s body for 6 weeks. For anyone who knows Jen, they wouldn’t be surprised to hear that she took losing her maternity session as merely a jumping off point to get really creative for a new kind of session. Somewhere in this process is when I started to realize what my purpose in photography really is and it matched perfectly with Jen’s concepts.
We tossed around ideas. We came up with plans. And Jen decided to BE BOLD. What follows is the result of what started out being referred to as a “make-up maternity session” and transformed into a true Life Moment. If my art and my work is about capturing LIFE, this is my attempt at capturing Motherhood. I hope you love these images as much as I do.

At just over 5 and a half pounds and 19 inches, this is where Abby should have still been when this image was shot. Hard to imagine, isn’t it?

Thank you thank you THANK YOU Jen for giving me a chance to stretch my creative muscles in a totally new direction and for helping me continue to fill my purpose. Your love for your daughter, your FIGHT for her is palpable. And it is as beautiful as you. Enjoy motherhood.

Awesome pictures of a gorgeous mother and daughter!
I think about this little one and her family often. We keep them in our prayers. Brienne, you are so amazing with your creative spirit. These images are tear-jerking. I can see and feel the love that this mother has for her child. Beautiful.
Stunningly(is that even a word) beautiful! I absolutely love the feet ones and the one of where the baby was supposed to be right now. So awesome!
Wonderful on so many, many levels. God is good! Such beauty he has created in this family, in your art, in the hearts of those in front of and behind this camera.
I love you. But you know that. This is EXACTLY what I wanted. Thank you for being such an amazing friend for me these past few months and for capturing our love and our fight in a way that no one else could.
Speechless. Absolutely breathtaking and awe-inspiring.
